Mrs. Kathlyn (Kate) Fisher
As a student, my favorite subject was math. Even way back then, SVCS had a progressive educational technology program. In fact, I first learned computer programming at Stockbridge Valley in the early 1970's. I received an Associate of Arts degree in Mathematics from Mohawk Valley College and then went on to Utica College of Syracuse University where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education. My first career position was as a documentation specialist for Rome Research Corporation (RRC), a Department of Defense contractor with projects at the Verona Test Site, Stockbridge Test Site, Newport Test Site and Rome Air Development Center. While working for RRC, I pursued a Masters Degree in computer science at SUNY Institute of Technology. Over the next 20 years, I was promoted to become a senior systems analyst designing and programming test equipment and data processing systems, and performing data analysis.
I served on the SVCS Board of Education in the mid-1990's when we decided to build the new school. After the school was complete, the Superintendent announced that SVCS needed a technology coordinator. With an uncertain future for defense research labs looming, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to combine my love of education with my career in computer science. I became the SVCS Technology Coordinator in January of 1999 and began work toward a Master's Degree in Education (with a focus on educational technology) through the University of New England. I have loved every day of leading SVCS in technology initiatives. I am very excited about our 1-1 computing program and would love to be able to engage our students in STEM (science - technology - engineering - math) projects including programming, robotics, aeronautical science, and computer aided manufacturing (2D CNC and 3D printing).
My favorite book as a teen was Ivanhoe and I am still fascinated by the Renaissance period, the lives of kings and queens, and the Crusades. If I could meet anyone in history, I would choose to meet Leonardo DaVinci. If I could go anywhere, I would take a year long trip through Europe by train to visit the monasteries and castles of Bavaria.
Outside of school, I am a member of the Ag Advisory Council for Cornell Cooperative Extension, serve on the Madison County Historical Society Hop Fest Committee, and I am an active member of Madison County Tourism. My husband Larry is also a life long resident of Stockbridge and runs Fisher's Electric. Larry and I own multiple businesses and we enjoy working outdoors on our small farm where we grow hops and raise animals and fruit and vegetables to feed our family. We like to travel with friends and enjoy meeting new people who share our interests in history, agriculture, community development, and food and beverage production. We have 3 daughters, all SVCS graduates with Master's degrees and professional careers in education or medicine. Together they have given us seven amazing grandchildren (Brooke, Amber, Christopher, Derek, Reece, Anna, and Andrew )
