Superintendent's Message

Jason A. Mitchell
Superintendent of Schools
Dear SVCS Families & Community,
As I settle into my role at Stockbridge Valley, I want to take a moment to formally introduce myself and share how honored I am to serve as the shared Superintendent of the Stockbridge Valley and Madison Central School Districts. It has already been a rewarding experience getting to know the students, staff, and community, and I’m excited for all that lies ahead.
This opportunity comes at a time when both districts are on solid financial and academic footing —something that speaks volumes about the strength of leadership, the dedication of faculty and staff and the support of both communities. That strong foundation allowed each Board of Education to be visionary in exploring this shared superintendency. I am grateful that both Boards have entrusted me with this important responsibility.
I recognize and deeply respect that Stockbridge Valley has its own identity, history and strengths. I come ready to listen, to learn and to work alongside you in support of what is best for our students. Though my responsibilities will be split between the two districts, my commitment is to be present—in the school building and at community events—and to develop strong relationships built on mutual trust and shared purpose.
Professionally, I bring over 25 years of experience in public education. I began my career as a social studies teacher and coach, later served for five years as the Middle/High School Principal at Poland Central School and then spent five and a half years as Deputy Superintendent at Canastota Central School. Since January 2020, I have served as Superintendent of Madison Central School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in History from Hamilton College, a Master of Arts in Social Studies from Albany State University and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from Utica College.
While I take great pride in my professional work, my greatest source of pride and happiness is my family. My wife, Jennifer, is the Middle School Nurse at Clinton Central School. Our oldest daughter, Sydney, is a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire studying Therapeutic Recreation. Our younger daughter, Claire, is a sophomore at Endicott College where she studies photography and communications. And rounding out our family is Finn, our beloved 8-year-old dog.
I believe deeply in communication, visibility and accessibility. I maintain an open-door policy and invite you to stop by, introduce yourself and share your thoughts and questions. I look forward to building connections across the Stockbridge Valley community and working together in the service of our students.
Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. I am excited to begin this work together.
In partnership,
Mr. Jason A. Mitchell
Superintendent Stockbridge Valley and Madison Central School Districts
