• Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL) is an international effort to increase literacy and the joy of reading by putting books in the hands of pre-school children from birth until their 5th birthday.  Country superstar, Dolly Parton, introduced the program in her hometown Tennessee in 1996 after realizing that “the seeds of [children’s] dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world" ("A Letter from Dolly").

Coordinated by Community Programmers, DPIL now serves over 730,000 children in 1,600 communities across the world in the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom.  Once a month, children can look forward to receiving a new book directly addressed and mailed to them from the DPIL.  And thanks to the Literacy Coalition of Madison County NY (LCMC NY), which secured funding from many generous donors, the DPIL program in Stockbridge Valley and surrounding areas is currently free to our families with pre-school children who wish to register.
