HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION IS PROHIBITED AT SCHOOL

You should never feel that it is not safe to come to school and participate in all school activities.  You should never be prevented from concentrating on your schoolwork because another student or school staff member is teasing you, making fun of you, pushing you around, or threatening you in some way, because of your race, color, weight, national origin (where your family comes from), ethnic group, religion, religious practices, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex, or for any other reason.  It is against school rules for any student or staff member to do this by physical actions or by verbal statements, including electronic messages.  This kind of conduct is prohibited on school property, on school buses, and at all school-sponsored events.

Please read and review the plain language summary above and share the information with your child. We have been advised by the New York State Center for School Safety that posting the above plain language summary on the District’s website should satisfy the requirement in the regulation. However, Section 2801 of the Education Law still requires districts to mail the summary to parents.  To this end, the summary is included in the annual back to school newsletter mailed to all households.  Any additional information may be found in the NYS Education Law and SVCS Code of Conduct Section1040.

Dissemination of the Code of Conduct

The Stockbridge Valley School Board of Education will ensure that the community is aware of this code of conduct by:

§         Providing copies of a summary of the code to all students at a general assembly held at the beginning of each school year. Parents must sign that their child has shared a copy of the code of conduct with them. This form will be kept on file for one year.

§         Providing all current teachers and other staff members with a copy of the code and a copy of any amendments to the code as soon as practicable after adoption.

§         Providing all new employees with a copy of the current code of conduct when they are first hired.

§         Making copies of the code available for review by students, parents and other community members.

§         The Board of Education will review this code of conduct every year and update it as necessary. In conducting the review, the board will consider how effective the code’s provisions have been and whether the code has been applied fairly and consistently.

The Stockbridge Valley School Board of Education may appoint an advisory committee to assist in reviewing the code and the district’s response to code of conduct violations. The committee will be made up of representatives of student, teacher, administrator and parent organizations, school safety personnel and other school personnel.

Before adopting any revisions to the code, the board will hold at least one public hearing at which school personnel, parents, students and any other interested party may participate. The code of conduct and any amendments to it will be filed with the Commissioner no later than 30 days after adoption. Unless otherwise indicated, this code applies to all students, school personnel, parents and other visitors when on school property or attending a school function. The following is a summary of the Stockbridge Valley Central School Code of Conduct. You may contact the District Clerk at 495-4400 for a complete printed copy.
