Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirements and Diploma Types

Regents Diploma

The following course credits must be achieved and the following Regents Examinations grades must be earned in order to obtain a Regents Diploma.

English: 4 Credits

Social Studies: 4 Credits

Mathematics: 3 Credits

Science: 3 Credits

Health: .5 Credit

Art/Music: 1 Credit

Physical Education: 2 Credits

Foreign Language: 1 Credit

Electives: 3.5 Credits

Total: 22 Credits

 

Required Regents Examinations (must have at least a 65 to earn credit)

  • Algebra I (9th Grade)
  • Living Environment (9th Grade)
  • Global Studies (10th Grade)
  • Comprehensive English (11th Grade)
  • US History (11th Grade)

 

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation

The following course credits must be achieved and the following Regents Examination grades must be earned in order to obtain a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.

English: 4 Credits

Social Studies: 4 Credits

Mathematics: 3 Credits

Science: 3 Credits

Health: .5 Credit

Art/Music: 1 Credit

Physical Education: 2 Credits

Foreign Language: 3 Credits *

Electives: 1.5 Credits

Total: 22 Credits

 

Required Regents Examinations (must have at least a 65 to earn credit)

  • Algebra I (9th Grade)
  • Living Environment (9th Grade)
  • Global Studies (10th Grade)
  • Earth Science (10th Grade)
  • Foreign Language  (typically in 10th Grade)*
  • Geometry (10th Grade)
  • Comprehensive English (11th Grade)
  • US History (11th Grade)
  • Algebra II (11th Grade)

*If a student wants to earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, but does not want to take Spanish II and III along with the Regents Exams; students may opt to take a 5 unit sequence in CTE or the Arts, BUT they must complete at least Spanish I.

Please note that if your child is college bound, they will want to consider finishing up the Foreign Language Sequence and take the Regents exams.  Colleges will look at high school transcripts to see if they have completed at least 3 years of a foreign language.  Many colleges require this from prospecitve high school students.
