Sanders Shanks

Global History Teacher (9th and 10th grade) and Varsity Baseball Coach

How many years have you been at SVCS?
5 years

What is your favorite part about your job?

The fact that every day I talk about history, which I have a huge passion for and appreciation for. Also, through coaching, I am able to stay in touch with baseball, my favorite sport.

What or who inspires you?
What inspires me is the idea of having a positive impact on students every day. Plus, everyone remembers their teachers. I aspire to be one who helped them grow up and become better versions of themselves.

What has been your proudest moments at SVCS?
Watching students succeed and have fun in my classroom. Last spring season we won the league title in baseball for the first time since 2015.

What is a fun fact about you?
I am the youngest of 4. My name is traced back several hundred years in the English monarchy and the name “Shanks” means “People with long legs”. I didn’t know how to talk until I was almost 4 years old.
